Our Physicians

Henry County Family Physicians is a private, general medicine practice with three offices located in Napoleon, Liberty Center, and Holgate, Ohio.  The practice specializes in family medicine, and has established an excellent reputation in the surrounding communities.  The practice was formed in May of 1991.  In July that year, Dr. Stephen Knipe joined the practice as a partner.  In 1998, the practice welcomed Dr. Kip Bidwell who sees patients primarily in the Liberty Center office.  Dr. Anna McMaster joined the practice in July 2000.  Julie Thomas, a family practice Nurse Practitioner came on board in September 2000.  In August 2009, Dr. Melinda Fritz joined the practice and began seeing patient in the Holgate office in November, 2009.  Although not affiliated with Henry County Hospital, the practice’s primary office is located in an annex of the hospital building.  The practice specializes in family medicine, Drs. Bidwell, Fritz and McMaster care for obstetric patients as well.  All physicians perform special procedures such as minor lesion removal and colposcopy.

Stephen M. Knipe, M.D.

Dr Knipe is a native of Columbus, Ohio.   He joined the practice July, 1991.   Dr. Knipe graduated magna cum laude from Ohio University with a degree in Botany and received his Masters Degree in Biology.  He attended medical school at the Medical College of Ohio, where he was elected into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his residency through MCO/St. Vincent’s Family Practice program in 1991.

Dr. Knipe is board certified in family practice through the American Board of Family Practice.  He has published several articles about electron microscopy and is a clinical instructor in family practice at the University of Toledo Medical Center.  He, his wife, and family reside in Napoleon.

Kip A. Bidwell, M.D.

Dr. Bidwell joined Henry County Family Physicians in 1998.  He graduated cum laude from the University of Toledo with a degree in Biology.  He attended medical school at the Medical College of Ohio and completed his residency training in family practice at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.  Dr. Bidwell served seven years in the United States Air Force at Grand Forks Air Base in North Dakota.  During this time he served as Chief of Family Medicine.

Dr. Bidwell is board certified in family practice through the American Board of Family Practice.  He also serves as clinical instructor for family practice for the University of Toledo Medical Center.  He, his wife, and family reside in Napoleon.

Anna M. McMaster, M.D.

Dr. McMaster joined the practice in 2000 and is a native of Henry County.  She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Toledo with a degree in Biology, and then attended medical school at the Medical College of Ohio.  She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Her residency was completed through the Medical College/St. Vincent Family Practice Program where she was chief resident her final year.

Dr. McMaster is board certified through the American Board of Family Practice, and is also a clinical instructor for medical students for the University of Toledo Medical Center.  As well as serving on the Board of Directors of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians and as Medical Director of Henry County Health Department.  Dr. McMaster, her husband and family reside in Liberty Center.

Melinda S. Fritz, M.D.

Dr. Fritz is affiliated with Henry County Hospital and is a native of northwest ohio.  She started in August, 2009 and  is the newest physician working in our office.  She graduated magna cum laude from Ohio University with a degree in Science, and attended medical school at the Medical University of Ohio.  She completed her residency at Fort Wayne Medical Education Program where she was Chief Resident and volunteered at Matthew 25, which is a free medical and dental clinic. 

Dr. Fritz is board certified in family practice through the American Board of Family Practice and also is a clinical instructor for medical students for the University of Toledo Medical Center.  Dr. Fritz, her husband and family reside in Holgate.
